Physical Education

Welcome to

Physical Education

with Mr. Wells

at Rockaway Meadow

One of the best things about teaching physical education is that I have the opportunity to interact with each and every student in our school. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you have regarding your child's physical education class. The best way to reach me is by email at chwells@pthsd.net or you may leave messages with the office at 973-263-7308.

What have we done this year?

Our first half of the year has been filled with so many amazing things so far, with so much more to come.  We have just over half the school year left, and time is going to fly by. Since September we have accomplished a lot.  Here is a list of skills and activities we’ve done:

Soccer

Basketball

Floor Hockey

Yoga

Cooperative games

Throwing (overhand, and under hand)

Chasing and fleeing

Bowling

Cup Stacking

Along with all of these activities we’ve done so far this year, we will be collaborating with The American Heart Association and Jump Rope For Heart to hold a week-long event of jump roping.  This event is a fundraiser, and we are looking to surpass our total of just over $3,000 from last year.  This event will be taking place the week of February 12th, with our kickoff event starting in the beginning of the Month.  We will be sending home some flyers that will explain all the details of the event.  We look forward to your support in our fundraising efforts.

What do we have coming up?

We’ve done so much this year, and there is still so much more to come.  So, what do we have coming up during the remainder of the school year?  We will be doing:

Jumping rope

Volleyball

Frisbee

Juggling

Kickball

Baseball/Softball

More cooperative activities

Dancing

We will also be having our Annual Field Day on Friday, May 18th, with the rain date on Monday, May 21st.  With last year being such a success, I am looking for volunteers to help again this year.  I will be sending out an email around the Middle of April to ask for volunteers for our Field Day. Any help would be great.  It is going to be another amazing day, which will begin to culminate the awesome activities we’ve done through the year.

Just a reminder

PE Class Guidelines

In my Physical Education Classroom Safety is my

#1 Rule.

The following rules will help to provide a safe environment in the gym:

  • 1  SAFETY
  • 2  Students must have sneakers to participate (No platform, open-back, or open-toed sneakers).
  • 3  No jewelry (except small stud earrings).
  • 4  Students should wear clothing that lets them move freely. They will be active, sitting on the floor and going outside. Please be sure that they are not wearing clothing that would prohibit any of these activities.
  • 5  If a student needs to be excused from participating due to illness or injury, please send a note into school. To be excused for more that 2 classes, a doctor’s note stating the duration of the excuse needs to be sent to the school nurse.
  • 6  Mrs. Capitanelli, our school nurse, and I work closely to ensure that a student's special needs are met.
  • 7  Please keep us informed of any health concerns that may affect your child's participation in Physical Education Class.
