The Basic Skills Math Program is a supplemental program designed to provide instruction, reinforcement, and developmental support for students to learn and strengthen basic skills in math. At Rockaway Meadow, we all strive for students in this program to receive extra help with basic math skills in a nurturing environment. Math specialist have the ability to help students at all levels to be able to function well in an adult world without a fear of using mathematics. As the math specialist at Rockaway Meadow School, I work with students who need more support to develop and strengthen their comprehension of math concepts. These skills can range from basic addition and subtraction to more complex skills such as algebra. The building blocks of mathematics start early on, when learning the basic skills. Collaboration with the classroom teachers is on-going, and targeted instruction is delivered in small groups and/or through in-class support.
